MENTAL HEALTH CAPACITY BUILDING WELLNESS PROMOTER
Job Summary:
The Wellness Promoter reports to the Mental Health Capacity Building School Coordinator and is accountable to a school division-level representative as appointed by the Director of Education. The Wellness Promoter works as part of a team to meet objectives of the Mental Health Capacity Building (MHCB) initiative. These objectives are met by developing and delivering developmentally appropriate, evidence-based programming to children, youth and families. The Wellness Promoter is expected to spend 80% of work time in direct contact with children, youth, school staff or parents.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Training, Development and Program Delivery
• Develop, plan, promote and deliver universally accessible mental wellness programming for large and small groups in schools and community settings;
• Focus programming and training on increasing knowledge, building skills and fostering abilities that enable others to improve their own mental health and wellness;
• Work with students, school staff, parents/guardians and community members (who work closely with children and youth) to increase their knowledge, skills, competence, and confidence related to mental health and illness issues;
• Work as part of a team (e.g., school staff, students, parents/guardians, community members) to recognize, access (e.g., Healthy School Planner), understand, and adapt to the changing needs of their community related to mental health and wellness;
• Build and maintain strong relationships with children, youth and families, and act as a “go to” mental health subject matter expert for students, staff, parents/guardians and community partners;
• Identify and facilitate access for individuals who need referral to specialized mental health and addiction services;
• Connect and collaborate with other MHCB staff in the province to identify challenges and celebrate successes; and,
• Work under the direction of the school principal and the appropriate superintendent.
Research and Statistics:
• Assist with evaluation activities and survey data collection for the MHCB initiative.
• Ensure all relevant documentation is in accordance with the Health Information Protection Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act; and,
• Ensure compliance with the Ministry of Education funding agreement.

Qualifications and Work Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
• A related degree, diploma or certificate in the health or social sciences field (e.g., health promotion and prevention, kinesiology, social work, nursing, psychology, public health, or early childhood development) or a relevant combination of education and experience;
• Minimum 2 years of experience working in promotion, prevention and/or client-based services of addictions and mental health;
• Knowledge of mental health and wellness, health promotion and prevention philosophy, strategies and principles, and child and youth development;
• Familiarity with the developmental, educational, emotional, social and recreational needs of children, youth and families;
• Align with and promote the aims and goals of the Catholic Faith and the Prince Albert Catholic School Division
• Ability to think creatively with experience in program delivery, along with public speaking and group facilitation skills;
• Ability to build relationships and communicate positively with all age groups;
• Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively;
• Ability to work independently as well as in teams;
• Understanding of and ability to practice personal and professional boundaries;
• Ability to advocate for others;
• Creative problem‐solving and decision‐making skills;
• Skills in liaising with community members, school staff, community agencies and health care providers;
• Understanding of the community’s economic, social, cultural and political environment;
• Knowledge of the local community and resources available;
• Capability to maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and assist in evaluating the effectiveness of programs;
• Resilience and a commitment to professional and personal development;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs;
• Working knowledge of social media;
• Ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance;
• A satisfactory criminal record check; and,
• Where applicable, prior to commencing duties, provide proof of licensure or registration with the approved Saskatchewan regulatory college.
LENGTH OF POSITION: (2-year contract)
• Start Date: August 25, 2025
HOURS OF WORK:
• 7 hours per day – 5 days per week
