RE: Indefinite STF Sanctions
Dear Parents/Guardians, Students, and Staff,
The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) Bargaining Committee has announced indefinite provincewide job action. Effective Monday, June 10, 2024, sanctions include a restricted work day for all STF members, withdrawal of voluntary services outside the restricted work day, withdrawal of student-lunch supervision and extracurricular services. Many aspects of our school operations and educational planning may be impacted in the coming days and weeks, including but not limited to the impact on transportation services, student support services, lunch periods and school hours.
In light of the STF withdrawal of Lunch Period Supervision, teachers will not participate in the supervision of students at lunch starting Monday, June 10, 2024. Elementary and high school students’ lunch periods will be reduced by 20 minutes, ending the school day 20 minutes earlier. This change will not impact the daily instructional minutes that students receive. The school times will be adjusted temporarily beginning June 10, 2024, and are listed below.
A reminder that supervision begins 15 minutes before the instructional day starts and ends 15 minutes after the instructional day ends. Parents/Guardians, please ensure your child does not arrive early or remain late until further notice.
Please note:
- School bus times will be impacted slightly due to the supervision restrictions. The end-of-school day bus runs will leave 20 minutes earlier due to the reduction of the lunch period.
- Families need to contact daycare providers or before/after school daycare providers directly for information regarding operations.
- If a high school student has a regularly scheduled class outside the above-mentioned hours, classes will operate as regularly scheduled.
The STF will inform us of other job actions that may occur due to the bargaining process. Teacher sanctions could take various forms, including but not limited to the withdrawal of supervision, half-day/full-day strikes, rotating strikes or a general strike.
Should any of these eventualities occur, please monitor Edsby for further updates. We will strive to notify students and parents as far in advance as possible to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. In addition, we will regularly update our school division website (www.pacsd.ca) to inform parents.
If you have any questions, call (306) 953-7500 or contact our school office for school-based information.
Sincerely,
L.Trumier
Director of Education
