Advent
Jesus said, “Je suis la lumière du monde – I am the Light of the World”
The overall theme of our advent journey this year is Jesus’ words, Je suis la lumière du monde – I am the Light of the World. This theme is very fitting for when we focus on God’s graces in our lives, we clearly see that Jesus is the light of the world. When we think about God’s graces, we are reminded that Jesus was born into our world to bring us the message of God. He is truly the light of our world.
The Advent visual in our schools will be a mural with the Christ Child in the center. Surrounding the Christ-child will be elements of the Christmas story:
- In the first week – we will focus on the Star, which lead the wise men to Jesus. Being the light of the world, our faith helps us to look to Jesus to find hope and to be open to God’s graces.
- In the second week – we will focus on the wise men, who were looking for the light of Christ.
- In the third week – we will focus on the angels and shepherds who share the message that the light of the world has arrived.
- In the fourth week – we focus on the manger, for Jesus is the light of the world.
As we ready our hearts for Christmas, our schools will be busy focusing on the hope that the light of Christ brings to our world through school assemblies and classroom activities. Below is one of the prayers we will pray. Please join us in prayer by saying it during your own Advent prayer time.
God, you love us so much that you want to be among us and share your life with us. Make us ready to welcome you by following your ways and living at peace with one another. Help us to see your graces working in our world today as we focus on you being the light of the world. We ask you do this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
