Saskatchewan Student Assessment Plan
On November 27, 2024, the Government of Saskatchewan released information regarding the Saskatchewan Student Assessment Program (Work Begins on New Saskatchewan Student Assessment Program | News and Media | Government of Saskatchewan). The Saskatchewan Student Assessment Program is a new Government of Saskatchewan initiative designed to enhance student learning and prepare students for future success. It is part of the Provincial Education Plan and focuses on addressing feedback from students, parents, and the public, emphasizing skill development, global recognition of education, and learning support.
Implementation begins in the 2025-26 school year with field tests for Grades 5 and 9 Mathematics and Grade 7 English Language Arts (ELA). By 2027-28, the program will be fully implemented, including assessments for Grades 4, 7, and 10 ELA and Grades 5 and 9 Mathematics.
All students in Saskatchewan schools at the specified grades will be required to participate, with accommodations provided for those needing specialized support. The assessments are not intended to replace classroom assessments but will complement them. Teachers are involved in developing the assessments to ensure alignment with the curriculum.
The program’s outcomes aim to measure student performance, guide instructional practices, and highlight strengths and areas for improvement. Results will be shared with parents, teachers, schools, and the Ministry of Education The assessments will be delivered online.
