October 6, 2021
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Effective October 8, 2021, Prince Albert Catholic Schools will be modifying how the Public Health Notifications of COVID-19 Exposures will be shared in our school community. With the increased number of cases of COVID-19, our new communication procedure will be shifting to be more efficient way of communicating Public Health Notifications to students and families.
The following communications will occur to parents and students when Public Health notifies the school of an individual(s) who attend the school while communicable. School personnel will not contact parents/guardians by phone unless deemed necessary.
Positive Case Exposure Notifications
- Notification of Positive Test Result of an Individual – Public Health will directly notify the individual ( staff, student, or individual) and provide instructions.
- Notification of the Potential Exposure to Class or Cohort – Public Health will provide a letter of the potential exposure. This letter will be posted to the class/cohort directly impacted by the positive case via Parent/Student ESDBY Portal. Instructions will be provided to those who are deemed close contacts on the letter from Public Health. If the notification from Public Health occurs during the school day for students in grades four and older, school personnel will inform the class/cohort of the potential exposure and clarify questions for students.
- Notification to the School Community — A notice will be posted to the Parent/Student Portal on Edsby River to the entire school community to communicate a potential exposure. Details of the individuals who contract COVID-19 will not be shared to protect their privacy.
Outbreak Communications
Single Cohort/Class Outbreak – If Public Health declares an outbreak in a class or cohort, the school division will continue to include all forms of communication noted above and will call the parent/guardians of the cohort/class directly involved. A media notification will be released to the school community and the broader community. Students in the cohort/class may be moved to Level 4 Remote Learning during the isolation period. No extracurricular activities will be permitted for the class/cohort.
School-Wide Outbreak – In the event Public Health declares a school-wide outbreak, the school will continue to include all forms of communication noted above and will send a school notification using EDSBY. A media notification will be released to the school community and the broader community. The entire school population may be moved to Level 4 Remote Learning based on the assessment of the Local Medical Health Officer. No extracurricular activities will be permitted.
Thank you for your continued support. Happy Thanksgiving! Take care and God bless.
Yours truly,
L. Trumier
