Dear Parents/Guardians, Students and Staff,
As you are aware, negotiations between the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) and the Government of Saskatchewan/Saskatchewan School Boards Association Provincial bargaining has not resulted in a new collective agreement for all teachers in Saskatchewan. The Board of Education for Prince Albert Catholic Schools hopes a fair, just, and reasonable collective agreement can be realized. In light of today’s announcement from the STF regarding the Provincewide Sanction Action: One-day withdrawal of all extracurricular activities including before school, during lunch hour, after school and evening on Monday, February 26, 2024.
The STF has NOT announced the withdrawal of Lunch Period Supervision. Teachers will participate in the supervision of students at lunch for our school division.
The schools will only be open 15 minutes before the instructional day begins and closed 15 minutes after the instructional day ends. Parents/Guardians, please ensure your child does not arrive early or remain late.
Please note:
- School bus times will remain the same.
- Families need to contact daycare providers or before/after school daycare providers directly for information regarding operations.
- If a high school student has a regularly scheduled class that occurs outside of the hours noted above, classes will operate as regularly scheduled.
The STF will inform us of what other job action may occur due to the bargaining process. Teacher sanctions could take various forms, including but not limited to the withdrawal of supervision, half-day/full-day strikes, rotating strikes or a general strike. Should any of these eventualities occur, the Board of Education will notify students and parents as far in advance as possible to ensure the safety and well-being of our children/youth. The media will also be informed at that time of the school division’s plans to manage the schools’ operations. In addition, we will update our school division website (www.pacsd.ca) regularly to inform parents.
If you have any questions, call (306) 953-7500 or contact our school office for school-based information.
Sincerely,
L.Trumier
Director of Education
