January 17, 2024

Dear Parents/Guardians, Students, Families and Staff of Prince Albert Catholic School Division (PARCSSD),

The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation has announced that they are getting ready for a second round of job action. All teachers, principals, vice-principals, guidance counsellors, coordinators, consultants, and student support services teachers will, in some form, withdraw their services on MONDAY, January 22, 2024. It is not known what form of job action will be taken.

Families are asked to make arrangements for their children to accommodate any possible disruptions:

  • Job action may result in various forms of service withdrawal, including half-day/full-day strikes, rotating strikes, or general strikes. The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation has indicated they will provide 48 hours’ notice of the type of job action regarding Monday, January 22, 2024.
  • Please monitor the Edsby and Media closely over the next few days for the details on job action that could be announced over the weekend.
  • Please note: all before- and after-school-led events. Intramurals, lunch clubs/activities, and other school division events (school sports, school clubs, performing arts, and meetings) are cancelled on Monday, January 22, 2024.
  • In the event of rotating strikes, please monitor school-specific information to ensure your child’s school will be open on January 22, 2024.
  • Schools will be open on Monday if teachers are not on strike. Busses will operate only for schools that are open on Monday, January 22, 2024. Schools will be closed if there is a teacher strike.

These are unpredictable times; therefore, monitoring EDSBY messages, our website, school messenger, and media for information is essential. It is important to note that the Prince Albert Catholic School Board of Education does not participate in the collective bargaining process. The Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee and the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation bargain at the provincial level.

We will endeavour to keep parents and families apprised of events and will do so using Edsby, social media, media and posting information on our website. Our school division will strive to focus on students’ safety and minimize disruption to their learning during these unpredictable times.

Should any changes occur regarding job action, we will communicate as soon as possible. Thank you for your support. If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with your child’s school or the Catholic Education Centre at 306-953-7500.

Sincerely.

L. Trumier

Director of Education
