Our Lenten Journey – Follow Jesus
March 6 – April 18, 2019
The theme for our Lenten journey this year is Follow Jesus. In life, we should follow the path the leads to Jesus, however sometimes there are obstacles that get in the way of a deeper relationship with Jesus. This Lent, our schools are going to focus on looking at the obstacles that get in our way from seeing the path to Jesus. Hence, our goal this Lent is to clear away the obstacles that prevent us from our goal; that of following Jesus.
At our school celebrations, students will see a mural with a path that leads to Jesus. However, along the paths will be big obstacles that prevent us from seeing the path. When we remove the obstacles, we will be able to clearly see the path. Here are the obstacles that we challenge ourselves to remove this Lenten season:
- On Ash Wednesday we introduce the mural.
- At the first Sunday of Lent celebration we remove the first obstacle of temptation.
- At the second Lenten celebration, we remove the second obstacle of bad decisions that hurt others.
- At the third Lenten celebration, we remove the obstacle of not helping others in need.
- The fourth week’s obstacle is not taking responsibility for our mistakes.
- The fifth obstacle is judging others.
- At your Holy Thursday celebration, the path is now clear to the cross. Then we can fully enter into the Triduum and the Easter season.
As we enter this special time in the liturgical year, let us remember to pray more, give more, and fast from things that distract us from God so that we may come closer to Jesus Christ. Let us pray that the obstacles that get in our way of a deeper relationship with Jesus will be removed this Lenten season.
