Maurice Chalifour receives Saskatchewan Catholic School Boards Association Appreciation Award!

PRINCE ALBERT October 6, 2021 – The Saskatchewan Catholic School Boards Association awards Maurice Chalifour with the Appreciation Award. The Prince Albert Roman Catholic Separate School Board of Education had nominated Maurice Chalifour for the award earlier this September in recognition of service and leadership as Board Trustee.

Annually the Saskatchewan Catholic School Boards Association makes a call for nominations for the prestigious Service Awards. The SCSBA Appreciation Award is awarded each year to a person or persons in appreciation of their commitment and contribution to Catholic Education in the Province of Saskatchewan. The award will be presented at the Saskatchewan School Boards Association Fall General Assembly.

Maurice has been an integral part of the Prince Albert Roman Catholic Separate School Division No. 6 since 1969. Hired as a teacher in 1969, he worked his way to becoming principal in 1987. Retiring from teaching in 1995, Maurice remained on the teacher substitute list until 2004. His work was not done with the Prince Albert Catholic School Division, as in 2011, he ran for Trustee of Subdivision #2 and was elected.

As a trustee with the Prince Albert Catholic School Board, Maurice has served on many committees such as the Audit Committee, Discipleship Committee, Staff Appreciation and Recognition Committee, and currently serves as a liaison for the Prince Albert Catholic Education Foundation.

The Prince Albert Catholic Education Foundation is a partnership between Catholic schools, parishes and the larger community. It is committed to nurturing, promoting and supporting the
vision, mission and core values of the Catholic School system. Maurice co-founded this very important foundation.

Maurice was instrumental in helping the foundation raise over $600,000 for the upgrades to our high school, École St. Mary High School. He is also a supporter in our division’s efforts to raise money for Toonies for Tuition.

Maurice is a fourth degree Knights of Columbus member, and past chair of the Columbian Centre Board of Directors. He is also an appointed Board of Director to the Saskatchewan Catholic School Boards Association. Maurice is a committed community member, and is very committed to his parish.

Maurice’s wide range of personal and professional experiences, as well as his gracious volunteer services offers so much to the Catholic Education community. He is a very active and appreciated member of the Prince Albert Board of Education. Maurice has a firm belief that providing a quality Catholic and academic education is of the utmost importance and he continues to work hard to promote this.
