Pentecost

“And He breathed on them and said, Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22)

With the end of the Easter season, we now celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. On Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles which inspired them to go teach the world about Jesus Christ.  Pentecost is often called the Birthday of the Church.

The Holy Spirit reminds us of the words of Jesus and inspires us to do God’s work on earth. It is our job to open our hearts and minds to God’s graces so that we too may be inspired by the Holy Spirit to do his holy work.

Here is a prayer, attributed to St. Augustine that you may wish to pray:

Breathe into me, Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy.
Move in me, Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy.
Attract my heart, Holy Spirit, that I may love only what is holy.
Strengthen me, Holy Spirit, that I may defend all that is holy.
Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I may always be holy.

Amen
