Prince Albert Catholic School Graduation Rates Are Out!

Prince Albert – Efforts to improve graduation rates in Prince Albert Catholic Schools are being
celebrated today! The results of the graduation rates for École St. Mary School 2019
continue to outperform the provincial results.

École St. Mary School continues the upward trend of graduating more students year over year.
The Prince Albert Roman Catholic Separate School Division Board of Education is proud of all
of the graduates, families and staff for their efforts in achieving this very important goal.
With record numbers of students graduating from École St Mary High School. Principal Mark
Phaneuf comments “I am pleased to see that the work of our staff at École St. Mary High
School in the areas of student engagement and building relationships with our students
and school community. It has had a positive effect on our graduation rates. I am most
proud of the accomplishments of our students and the successes they have enjoyed in
our school.” He adds “Our focus at École St. Mary has been, and will continue to be on
the needs of our students transitioning into, through and out of our school. A core belief
among our staff is to teach Peter Math, we need to know two things; we need to know
Math and we also need to know Peter.”

The On-time graduation rate for Non-First Nations, Métis and Inuit students increased by
5% to 96% per cent, the provincial ‘on-time’ graduation rate is 87%. The On-time
(three-year) graduation rate defined as students graduating within three years of starting Grade
10.  The On-time graduation rate for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students also increased by 3% to
56% per cent in 2018-2019, up from 53% per cent in 2017-2018. The provincial graduation rate for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students is 43%.

A second measure of the graduation rates include students who require more time known as
Extended-time (defined as 5 years of starting grade 10).
The Extended-time graduation rate for Non-First Nations, Métis and Inuit students is 97% per
cent in 2018-2019 while the provincial graduation rate for Non-First Nations, Métis and Inuit
students is 91%.  The Extended-time graduation rate for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students also increased by 2% to 79% per cent in 2018-2019. The provincial graduation rate for First Nations, Métis and
Inuit students is 61%.

Board Chair Suzanne Stubbs comments “ The success of our students can be attributed to
the great partnership of parents and staff. Thank you to all staff in Prince Albert Catholic
Schools for their dedication and commitment for our students in their educational
journey from Pre-Kindergarten to Graduation!” The Board of Education is very proud to
