Re: STF Sanction Action, Withdrawal of noon hour supervision on Thursday, February 8, 2024

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you may have heard through the media, negotiations between the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) and the Government of Saskatchewan/Saskatchewan School Boards Association bargaining team have not resulted in a new collective agreement for teachers. The Board of Education for Prince Albert Catholic Schools hopes a fair, just and reasonable collective agreement can be realized.

The STF announced today that there will be a one-day provincewide withdrawal of noon-hour supervision on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Professional teaching staff across the province including teachers in the Prince Albert Catholic School Division will be withdrawing the service of noon-hour supervision. Teachers will be required to leave the school over the scheduled lunch break. At this time, elementary students will be permitted to stay at school over their scheduled lunch break. Support staff and non-STF staff will be responsible for noon hour supervision duties. Highschool students will be required to go home or find alternate arrangements for the lunch break from 12:14-1:14.

Please note:

  • Before and after school supervision and recess supervision will continue as usual until further notice
  • All school busses will be operating as usual until further notice
  • Elementary students will be permitted to stay at school over the lunch break
  • Highschool students will be required to go home or find alternate arrangements over the lunch break from 12:14-1:14

The STF will inform us of what other job action may occur due to the bargaining process. Teacher sanctions could take various forms, including but not limited to the withdrawal of supervision, half-day/full-day strikes, rotating strikes or a general strike.

Should any of these eventualities occur, the Board of Education will notify students and parents as far in advance as possible to ensure the safety and well-being of our children/youth. The media will also be informed at that time of the school division’s plans to manage the schools’ operations. In addition, we will update our school division website (www.pacsd.ca) regularly to inform parents. If you have any questions, call (306) 953-7500 or contact our school office for school-based information.

Sincerely,

L. Trumier
Director of Education
