RE: Provincewide Sanction Action: Two-day Withdrawal of all Extracurricular Services
Dear Parents/Guardians, Students and Staff,
Today, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) has announced a “Withdrawal of Extracurricular” for two full days on Tuesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 6, 2024.
In light of today’s announcement from the STF regarding the Provincewide Sanction Action: Two-day withdrawal of all extracurricular activities including before school, during lunch hour, after school and evening on Tuesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 6, 2024. Please note:
- Schools will only be open 15 minutes before the instructional day begins and closed 15 minutes after the instructional day ends. Parents/Guardians, please ensure your child(ren) do not arrive early or remain late.
- Cancellation of all school-led extra-curricular events and other school division events (for example and not limited to school sports, school clubs, performing arts, meetings, graduation preparations, open houses, etc.).
You can also expect:
- The École St Mary High School Open House on Thursday. March 7, 2024 will occur as scheduled at 7pm until further notice. Doors open at 6:30. Parents/Students may contact École St Mary High School to arrange tours and request information if unable to attend the open house.
- Lunch supervision will occur Tuesday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 6, 2024.
- School bus operations will operate as regularly scheduled.
- Elementary band will operate as regularly scheduled.
- Families need to contact daycare providers or before/after school daycare providers and preschool providers directly for information regarding arrangements.
- If a high school student has a regularly scheduled class that occurs outside of the regular school hours, classes will occur as regularly scheduled.
The STF will inform us of what other job action may occur due to the bargaining process. Teacher sanctions could take various forms, including but not limited to the withdrawal of supervision, half-day/full-day strikes, rotating strikes or a general strike. Should any of these eventualities occur, the Board of Education will notify students and parents as far in advance as possible to ensure the safety and well-being of our children/youth.
The STF and the Government of Saskatchewan/Saskatchewan School Boards Association Provincial bargaining has not resulted in a new collective agreement for all teachers in Saskatchewan. The Board of Education for Prince Albert Catholic Schools hopes a fair, just, and reasonable collective agreement can be realized. If you have any questions, call (306) 953-7500 or contact schools for school-based information.
Sincerely,
L. Trumier
Director of Education
